About this Event

~Please note, this opportunity is open only to female identifying survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse aged 18+. No formal artistic experience is required.~

Session dates:

Sunday 3rd Nov, 1pm - 3pm

Sunday 10th Nov, 1pm - 3pm

Sunday 17th Nov, 1pm - 3pm

Sunday 24th Nov, 1pm - 4pm

Sunday 1st Dec, 1pm - 4pm

Location: The workshops will take place in the Market Gallery, Duke Street, Glasgow. Both Market Gallery and the Glasgow Women's Library are wheelchair accessible.

During these sessions you’ll get to play with materials, have fun, and use your sense of touch to make objects that make you feel good! The sessions are all free, we’ll provide materials, tea and biscuits, and travel support by request. A support worker from Glasgow East Women's Aid will be present throughout.

This is a five week course, which will result in you creating your own tactile sculptures to be displayed in an exhibition at the Glasgow Women's Library in February 2020. This exhibition will display your sculptures together with work by three professional artists - Leah Miller-Biot, Maria De Lima and Joanna Peace - as well as selected material from the Women's Aid Archive. You will also have the opportunity to attend an archive session at the Glasgow Women's Library, where you can interact with material from the Women's Aid Archive and learn about ways that women have fought and resisted in Scotland throughout history.

A small publication will also be created to document the workshops, becoming a 'How-to' guide for anyone who may want to recreate the course. As with previous Uncovered Artistry public outputs, you will have the option to remain anonymous in both the publication and the exhibition.
