Tracing the Past, Walking the Future: campus walk
Tue 9 May 2017, 10:30 – 14:00 BST
This two-day research event will consider cross-disciplinary and trans-historical intersections between concepts of walking, mapping, history, technology, performance, and the environmental humanities, via a research symposium and a campus walk. Please register here for the campus walk led by naturalist and broadcaster, Ed Drewitt, to explore the university’s hidden temporal and environmental history. The walk will be followed by lunch.
‘Tracing the Past, Walking the Future’ will explore the environmental presences, narratives and histories that surround us, but may be overlooked. By applying interdisciplinary perspectives, what new or hidden perspectives of university life (past, present, and future) may be revealed? How might technology allow us to engage new audiences around these themes? We also aim to investigate the ways in which walking can inform our research and the dissemination of work. How might we develop the use of walking as a methodology for the Environmental Humanities, Performing Arts, English Literature, and History? How does a mobile perspective enhance or alter our understanding of place? How are the mobilities of place translated into the stories we tell of it?
