About this event

Join us for a special evening event exploring the remarkable world of the stone curlew—one of our rarest and most elusive ground-nesting birds. We’ll begin the evening in the West Hide, where local conservationists will offer an informal talk and share their insights from years of monitoring the east of England’s stone curlew population. Learn about the species’ wider conservation status, the role of protected sites, and how partnerships with local landowners are key to keeping this fragile population going. From there, we’ll head out on a gentle walk from the former visitor centre, taking in key habitats and discussing the other rare wildlife that thrives alongside the stone curlew in the Brecks landscape. Expect personal stories from the field, sightings of evening wildlife, and the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the behind-the-scenes work that helps protect one of our most iconic (but rarely seen) birds.

Please meet in the NWT car park at 7.30pm.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust is the oldest Wildlife Trust in the country. The purchase of 400 acres of marsh at Cley on the north Norfolk coast in 1926 to be held ‘in perpetuity as a bird breeding sanctuary’ provided a blueprint for nature conservation which has now been replicated across the UK. Our vision for Norfolk: where the future of wildlife is protected and enhanced through sympathetic management and people are connected with and inspired by Norfolk’s wildlife and wild spaces.
