The Department for International Trade (DIT) London Region and ERDF’s Global Growth Project in collaboration with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and the twin City of Richmond, VA are inviting London SMEs to join a trade mission to Virginia to meet potential partners and buyers in this strategic USA State.


Why participate?

With 45% of all US consumers living within 1,000 km, moderate and stable tax environment and strong infrastructure of highways, ports, railways and airports, Virginia represents a great opportunity for London businesses to expand and grow in a strategic USA State.


More than 500,000 students are enrolled in over 100 institutions of higher education in Virginia. The State has one of the highest concentrations of doctoral scientists in the USA, some of the lowest business operating costs and a high quality environment for work and leisure.


What are the benefits of participating?

23 to 27 October 2017


Who should apply?
London-based small and medium-sized enterprses (SMEs*) interested in trading opportunities in the State of Virginia who operate in the following sectors:

  • Technology
  • Digital
  • Creative
  • Medical Technology and Biotechnology
  • Smart Cities


What is the cost of participating?
Participation fee of £250 (+VAT)

Flights and in-market meals to be covered by the delegates. Eligible companies will receive up to 3 nights’ accommodation in a designated hotel in Richmond, VA.


Eligibility

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs*) based on one of 32 London's boroughs or the City of London who have been trading for at least 12 months
  • Priority will be given to London-based SMEs who are either:
    new to export (no overseas sales secured)
    or
    currently exporting to less than 3 markets or with overseas sales accounting for less than 10% of their annual turnover


*Are you an Independent Small or Medium Enterprise (SME)?

Your business is defined as an independent ‘small’ or ‘medium’ enterprise if:

  • It employs fewer than 250 persons; AND
  • Its annual turnover is below €50m (approx. £40m); AND
  • Its balance sheet is below €43m (approx. £37m); AND
  • It is not a subsidiary and/or under the control of a larger SME entity (25% threshold)
