Traditional Building Skills Demonstrations - 27 October

Workshop 1: 10am - 1pm (Leadwork in Traditional Buildings)

Workshop 2: 2pm - 5pm (Rainwater Goods in Traditional Buildings & Adaptation for Climate Change)



Take part in an expert-led demonstration to learn about the traditional skills and materials used to build the iconic village of New Lanark, which is now one of Scotland's 6 World Heritage Sites. 

  • Adults Only
  • Sensible footwear required
  • All other safety equipment provided

Places are limited on the Traditional Building Skills Demonstrations so please pre-book your FREE place via Eventbrite as soon as possible if you would like to attend. If you book a place but then have to cancel please let us know as soon as possible by emailing marketing@newlanark.org so we can offer your place to someone on the waitiing list.


A Townscape Heritage / Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme is taking place at New Lanark over the next four years. Phase 1 of this large-scale regeneration project begins with the restoration work of Double Row, a Category A listed former millworkers' tenement block, built in the 1790s. Join in with our FREE public events as part of this exciting project and the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design & the Festival of Architecture 2016. Click here to read more about the project.

Total costs for this large scale regeneration project are over £4m. The two main funders are the Heritage Lottery Fund through its Townscape Heritage (TH) programme and Historic Environment Scotland through its Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS). Additional funding has been secured from the Renewable Energy Fund (South Lanarkshire Council)The Wolfson Foundation and New Lanark Trust.
