About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

We welcome people of levels of experience to come to Graeme's monthly art classes for adults!

About the teacher:

Graeme Mackay is headteacher at Cygnets Art School in Portobello. His passion for art led him to attend Leith School of Art during his spare time outside of a busy working life in retirement planning and investments. Over the past few years, he has run his own art club, supporting local artists with techniques and theory in drawing and painting. He has now decided to dedicate his life to pursuing art full time, both creating his own work and supporting others in their artistic endeavours.

About the classes:

These classes are free to attend, but any donations are much appreciated. All materials will be provided, so you just need to bring yourself! You can use the kitchen to make yourself tea or coffee and BYOB if you'd like to bring something alcoholic to drink (please leave a small donation if you do this).

We'll now be using the Eventbrite booking system, like we do for our other art classes - to stop people booking up the spaces and not showing up!

Every month we've had people on the waiting list who have missed out, because people didn't let us know they couldn't make it.

Eventbrite requires £1 to be entered in the donation box but this can be refunded if you like, when you attend the class, or you can put it towards a cup of tea from the kitchen ☕

Organized by

Sketchy Beats is a not-for-profit arts space on Great Junction Street, Leith. It's an open platform for creatives of any kind to use and share their ideas with the public. The space is designed to be affordable and accessible to everyone - people who have never organised events before, musicians who have never played outside their own bedroom, artists who have never exhibited before. It aims to be a place where creativity brings the community together, without money being an obstacle.

Everything in the space is donation-based. If you want a cup of tea or coffee, you can help yourself and leave a small donation. If you want to bring your own alcohol, just leave a donation for corkage. If you want to organise your own event, it's free to book, we just ask for a donation from each person who comes in. If you are interested in booking the space for your own event, workshop, meet-up or rehearsal, send us a message!
