Event description

Description

Come along and learn the basics of scything and hay making with Jeremey Hastings, who with over 30 years experience will show you how to transform our beautiful wildflower meadows at Carr House Meadows nature reserve into a crop of species-rich hay. Learn about the use of this ancient tool on a traditional hay meadow, which were once commonplace across the English countryside and how they still play a vital role in the health of our farmed landscapes.

A great opportunity to find out more about our work and volunteering with Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust and the Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Partnership, as well as the positive impact that traditional practices have for wildlife, people and the landscape.

Two courses will be running simultaneously; scything and hay making. These are bookable separately - please note that HAY MAKING IS NOT AVAILABLE on Monday 15th only available from TUESDAY to FRIDAY. Monday's scything will provide the mown grass needed to run the hay making for the rest of the week.
