Event description
All 3 Weeks of Trafficking, Modern Day Slavery and Refugees: Modern Day Crisis

About this event

Week 1 - 26th May 2021 Dan Pratt - Trafficking

Revd Dr Dan Pratt is the founder of Together Free (www.togetherfree.org.uk), an emerging Baptist antislavery initiative working with local communities and churches towards slavery-free communities. Through Dan’s experience of starting a church among rough sleepers, he encountered people who had been exploited in Modern Slavery. Dan consequently started the SAMS (Southend Against Modern Slavery) Partnership and Together Free. The evening will highlight different forms of modern slavery, how to safeguard as well as exploring how to partner towards slavery-free communities.

Week 2 - 2nd June 2021 Atalie Gains - Modern Day Slavery

The Clewer Initiative.

The Clewer Initiative is the title of national project of the Church of England to combat modern slavery.

Beginning initially in 2016 as a three year project, further funding will enable the project to continue until 2030.

The Clewer Initiative exists to raise awareness of modern slavery, to enhance victim identification and to provide victim care and support. The key premise of the initiative is that slavery must be eradicated in local communities, using tangible actions, and that the Church of England, having a presence in every community will be able to do aid in this endeavour.

Revd. Atalie Gaines, Vicar of King Charles the Martyr Church, Potters Bar (previous curate of St Andrews Bedford) is working alongside Revd Kelvin Woolmer of St Peter de Merton, Bedford to lead the diocesan approach to Modern Day Slavery in St Albans Diocese.

Week 3 - 9th June 2021 Brian Cunnigham - Injustice in how cases are handled

Brian is the Coordinator of BRASS - Bedfordshire Refugee and Asylum Seekers Support
