Event description

Description

What you Need to Know:

  • Distance: 8km

  • Run Level: Relaxed*

  • Run Leader: Betty de Jongh

*All of our runs are graded: Relaxed, Progressive, Speedy and Gnarly. To make sure you're on the right run for you, see our website: https://trailfestscotland.com/run-with-us/

Note: while this is a Relaxed run, it does go onto open hillside and is exposed to the elements making it much more of a challenege than our regular relaxed runs. Mandatory kit must be worn and carried (see below).

Starting at Edenmill Farm this Relaxed run will follow the John Muir Way on paved roads for approx. 2km before striking onto a hill path leading us up to The Whangie. Crossing a deer fence by a style, we'll venture into the 'canyon' of The Whangie to marvel at this amazing natural feature before re-appearing on the north side of the rocks to be presented with a huge vista, which is a feast for the eyes (hopefully the weather lets us see the view). Note: there is a very small section of easy scrambling to get into The main crack of The Whangie from the south. Help will be on hand should you need it, but there is also a path round the side if you don't fancy it.

After escaping the crevasse of The Whangie we'll contour round the north side of the hill before striking back in a south westerly direction to summit at the trig point atop Auchineden. Once selifes have been snapped, this turns into a delightful descent on undulating and, at times, steep, narrow hill path which will likely be boggy in parts, before we return to Edenmill for post-run coffee.

This run is aimed at runners who:

  • already enjoy running at least 8km at a relaxed pace

  • are building experience of trailrunning and running off-road

  • want to enjoy a group run with a social atmosphere

  • are looking to build fitness and progress to longer runs or enjoy a sociable run in the hills

What to wear/bring

    • Trailrunning shoes are mandatory: no trail shoes, no run. This is for your safety and that of the group as there will be sections which can be very muddy, slippy and steep which road shoes are not designed for.

    • Waterproof jacket - mandatory (worn or carried)

    • Warm layer - mandatory (carried). It casn be very blowy and wild on the open hillside.

    • Hat/buff, gloves - mandatory (worn or carried)

    • Waterproof trousers - recommended
    • Food & water - recommended. You may want to carry some run food and/or a water bottle/bladder

    • Mobile phone in case of emergency (fully charged)

    • Survival bag - recommended (carried)

*If you are wearing road shoes and/or are not wearing/carrying the mandatory kit you will not be allowed to join the run - please don't make us make the awkward call.
