Train as a Youth Worker
Overview
This 4 week programme, held online via Zoom, is for aspiring youth leaders and practitioners who are working with girls and young people aged between 11 to 18 years. It introduces the framework of The Gifted's impactful Butterfly Project, where young people learn how to deal with life’s challenges confidently, giving them coping strategies and building their resilience.
Each week, we will cover different tools and techniques that young people can apply to raise their self esteem, boost their inner confidence and set healthy boundaries.
WEEK 1 - Self Identity and Confidence
Self-identity is crucial for building confidence and self-esteem in teenage girls and young people because it helps them understand and accept who they are, which is foundational for a healthy sense of self-worth. Adolescence is a time when girls are often searching for a sense of identity, testing boundaries, and comparing themselves to peers and societal expectations.
During this session you will learn how to:
- Adopt a culturally sensitive and inclusive approach.
- Create safe affirming spaces and build trust.
- Identify a range of exploratory activities.
- Encourage participants to self advocate and develop their boundary setting skills.
- Introduce coping strategies such as mindfulness and various grounding exercises.
