============== EXCLUSIVE ONLINE TRAINING EVENT ===============

Our 'New Medical Appraiser' training course is an exclusive programme for doctors wishing to become an Appraiser.

Developed by our experienced Appraisers and Responsible Officers, this course delivers effective and stimulating educational content to a small group (max. 10) with emphasis on practical sessions and case discussions, to meet the needs of New Appraisers and ensure that you are skilled in accordance with legislative requirements.

Your course facilitator is a highly experienced Medical Appraiser, since initially undertaking Appraisals from 2006 as Regional Medical Director London and East with Nuffield Proactive Health, and is in fact, our Lead Appraiser here at MEDSU, responsible for overseeing our own Appraiser body training and development. He is also an independent Responsible Officer. He will advise you on the strategies and best practices that we employ at every Appraisal to help maintain our consistency and quality assurance so rest assured you're in good hands.

At the end of this course all participants will:

  • Have acquired detailed knowledge of how to conduct a professional Medical Appraisal
  • Know what is required of you as an Appraiser in terms of professionalism and documentation
  • Understand and be able to recognize when a doctor has provided sufficient supporting information for their Appraisal
  • Have been exposed to communication and coaching methods and techniques to facilitate reflective practice
  • Understand the more common difficulties that can arise in Medical appraisal and have an idea of  how to handle these.
  • Know how the GMC handles fitness to practise concerns and how this affects appraisal and revalidation
  • Have an approach to facilitating good PDP goals
  • Know how to sign off a Medical Appraisal correctly
  • Be suitably skilled to progress onto Part 2:  Theory into Practice - our unique Mentor-based observational and practical programme

Suitable for: All grades of doctors

One Day 9:30 – 4.30 plus 3 hours of pre-course study

"This course has summed up what to expect in an appraisal and how to make it run smoothly. Although this is intended for those who would like to train as appraisers, it can very well be used by appraisees to understand properly what is expected of them during the meeting and how to better your own portfolio. I highly recommend it even if you're not planning to be an appraiser." Dr M - June 2021 Delegate

"I took the course hoping to become an appraiser. It was well structured and even if I am not able to continue to an appraiser role it will help me in my own appraisals." Dr F - June 2021 Delegate

"The course is concise and incisive. The pre-course reading materials are very relevant and informative, and prepared me adequately for the course. The trainer chose the presentation materials that underpin the appraisal process very carefully and made the assimilation of such vast subject matter a lot easier. The course was delivered professionally in a relaxed and enabling manner. " Dr M - April 2021 Delegate

"A very professional course- engaging." Dr C - April 2021 Delegate

"Highly recommended for all healthcare professionals." Dr E - April 2021 Delegate
