Train the Trainer course
Event Information
Description
This two-day course is an introductory course to training, designed specifically to give new trainers and managers the skills to nurture and develop their staff in-house or work within a training capacity with others. The course is interactive, practical and high energy with a core focus on promoting learning centered techniques. Delegates will cover training evaluation, course design and delivery and other key learning delivery methods to improve training outcomes.
THE USE OF LEARNER CENTERED TRAINING TECHNIQUES:
- Current thinking on this subject is examined and the application and advantages of these techniques in training are explored
COURSE DESIGN:
- Delegates explore course design, content, presentation options and approaches linked with learning from the rest of the day’s course content.
- The use of visual aids and PowerPoint are reviewed to identify how these tools can complement a training session.
- The use of group activities, role-play, discussion and interactive activities and tasks are explored to build into the course design and structure to aid learning.
- Delegates are given a mini- topic area to design a 10 min course ready for delivery the next day. Adequate time at the end of the day is given to this task for delegates to work individually on this, however this may form part of ‘take away’ work to complete for the next day.
REVIEW AND CONCLUSION OF DAYS SESSION:
Review of the course content. Delegates own learning goals are re-examined in relation to the course activities from the day. Approaches are covered to apply learning to the delegates’ own current working environments.
DAY TWO:
Trainer gives welcome and overview of the day & re-caps course in full and a review of previous days learning. The outline and aims of the 2-day course are then re-covered and individuals learning goals are linked to the training content. (Note: The Trainer will come back to these individual learning goals throughout the course duration)
DELIVERY METHODS:
- Presentation skills are covered, where delegates explore key criteria related to the physiology of presenting, incorporating body language, positive phrasing linked to effective communication and how to engage a group using advanced questioning & listening skills.
- Essential skills are explored relevant to managing behaviour in a training session and how to manage when things go wrong on the day.
- One to one training delivery is also examined and key methods of delivery for this approach are explored.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION - DELIVERY OF DESIGNED MINI COURSE TOPIC:
- Delegates are given the opportunity to personally prepare for own mini course delivery based on previous days course design having been completed. Reflecting on the skills and approaches learnt in delivery methods, they need to prepare to present their 10-minute course live to the group.
- Each delegate will present, and the group will evaluate and feedback to one another.
- Much of day two is taken up with this part of the course, which is hugely valuable where delegates can put into practice and try out styles and techniques learnt on the course overall.
TRAINING EVALUATION:
- Formal evaluation approaches & recommended best practice is explored, linked back to the training needs analysis, objectives, goals & measurable outcomes.
REVIEW AND CONCLUSION OF DAYS SESSION AND COURSE OVERALL:
Review of the course content. Delegates own learning goals are re-examined in relation to the course activities. Approaches are covered to apply learning to the delegates’ own current environments.
