*** This training is only for people working with women in the criminal justice system in Wales. Please note, you will have to complete the Gender Responsive Skills & Trauma Informed Practice training before you sign up to the Train the Trainer***

This training has been designed for professionals working with women who are in, or at risk of entering the Criminal Justice System (CJS) from Wales, who do not already have access to specific gender-informed training. This training aims to increase participants’ understanding of applying gender-responsive and trauma-informed approaches to working with women who are in or at risk of entering the CJS; develop confidence in using trauma-informed skills within practice, be able to engage in reflective practice, and know how to monitor and boost your own resilience.

C ourse content:

Identifying the potential vulnerabilities posed by women.
Understanding the need for a gender-responsive approach to women and how to apply this to practice.
Identifying the possible trauma responses women may present.
Identify and have confidence in using various trauma-informed skills with women.
Identify the importance of promoting a positive self-identity and identify how to promote this within our service users.
Recognise the importance of staff engaging in supervision and how to engage in reflective practice.
Understand the importance of maintaining resilience and identify at least three strategies to boost their own resilience.

Why become a trainer?

Attendance at the Train the Trainer Events will provide participants with the relevant skills and knowledge to be able to deliver the Gender Responsive and Trauma Informed Skills Practitioner Training. Other benefits include (but are not limited to) opportunities to:

Enhance your own awareness of the potential impact of trauma on women, as well as skills to respond in practice.
Support your organisation to develop their knowledge of the importance of and need to adopt a gender-responsive approach to working with women, in line with the ambition of the Women’s Justice Blueprint.
Provide an opportunity for staff within your organisation to further develop their own knowledge and skills around working with women who may have experienced trauma.

To be eligible for the Train the Trainer it is essential to have first attended and completed the Gender Responsive and Trauma Informed Skills Practitioner Training . Alongside this, it is also recommended that those attending Train the Trainer should have all, if not most, of the following skills and expertise:

Experience and skills in delivering formal presentations and/or training.
An understanding of the need for a gender-responsive approach to working with women.
An understanding and commitment to working in a trauma informed way.
An awareness of available internal and external staff wellbeing support.
Confidence in being able to reinforce/practice self-care messages during the training and be able to support and manage potential distress amongst the training cohort.
This training has been designed to be delivered on Microsoft Teams, therefore trainers should have a fairly good knowledge of Microsoft Teams.

Registers will be shared with the HMPSS so that completion of the training is logged, and attendance is monitored. We kindly ask that all learners fully engage, commit, and actively participate in the sessions.

To collect personal and special category data WWA needs a lawful basis for processing under Article 6 and Article 9 of the UK GDPR. For the processing of personal data, WWA will rely on the following lawful basis:

(A) Legitimate interests: the processing is necessary for our legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party, unless there is a good reason to protect your personal data which overrides those legitimate interests. Whenever we use Legitimate Interest to process data, we perform a Legitimate Interest Balancing Assessment (LIA) to enable us to consider any potential impact on you (both positive and negative), and your rights under data protection laws. Your information will not be processed if our interests as a charity override your fundamental rights and freedoms according to the law.

To process special category data, WWA will be relying on the following condition for processing special category data:

(A) Explicit Consent: clear, informed consent has been freely provided for a specific purpose by statement or by a clear affirmative action which signifies agreement to the processing of data.

C. Your information is held securely on Microsoft SharePoint or local machines and Google Forms, accessible only to personnel who require the information to carry out the processes listed in 1.2.

We have undertaken a third-party supplier assessment on all our suppliers and have identified a low risk when using these organisations. Such decisions are assessed on a regular basis and our findings are kept for record purposes. Hard copy information is stored securely at the Welsh Women’s Aid’s head office.

1.4 How long will we keep your information?

Your information will be held for 6 years for audit and quality control purposes.

We review our retention periods and update our Records of Processing Activities (RoPA's) accordingly. If you would like to know more about the retention of your personal information, please email the Data Protection team via: DataProtection@welshwomensaid.org.uk.

1.5 Who do we share your information with?

Your information will be shared with Women Justice Blueprint for reporting and is kept anonymously. The information on this form will be stored in our training database and will be stored in line with our Confidentiality, Data Protection and Sharing Information policy.

There may be certain circumstances where we would be required to share your information externally without your consent, for example, where we are required to do so by law, to safeguard public safety, and in risk of harm or emergency situations. We will only share the minimum information for the purpose, on a need-to-know basis, and with appropriate individuals.

1.6 What are your rights?

You have the right to:

Information: Individuals have the right to be informed about the collection and use of their personal data (this privacy notice). This is a key transparency requirement under the UK GDPR.
Access: Ask to see the information about you that is held by WWA (also known as a Subject Access Request)
Rectification: Have information about you changed if it is not correct
Restriction of processing: Restrict the processing of some or all your information if it is deemed to be inaccurate or we are not lawfully allowed to use it.

In addition, the following rights apply only in certain circumstances:

Avoid automated decision-making: Question decisions made about you by a computer.
Erasure: Ask for us to delete some or all your information we hold about you (subject to our contractual and/or legal obligations)
Portability: The right to data portability
Withdraw consent: You can withdraw your consent to process your data at any time (if consent is our lawful basis for processing your data) by contacting us via dataprotection@welshwomensaid.org.uk.

If you are unhappy with the way your request is handled or disagree with a decision made by WWA regarding your data, you can submit a complaint.
