Event description

Description

For: Anyone who teaches or trains large or medium groups and who wishes to gain some insight into vocal techniques.

This workshop aims to give participants an extended repertoire of techniques and skills in vocal delivery.

Drawing from a range of disciplines, including music and drama, we will look at: how the voice can be used as an instrument in teaching; how to modulate and adapt the voice to a range of circumstances; ways to protect the voice from strain; how to project the voice and fill any space; exercises to train and develop vocal capacity. This is a session designed to introduce the concept of voice work and help practitioners start a practice routine by themselves.

There will be games, information and a practice workshop you can do at home.

Please bring some water – you will be doing a lot of talking.

To find out more about the project contact me, Dr Maren Thom. These workshops are of course open to practitioners and other non-academics at QMUL, along with those who teach and research.

Please note: These workshops use methods from improv theatre, drama and voice coaching. That means you will be asked to reveal a little of yourself to the rest of the group and join in with the exercises. These sessions are designed for people who have never done anything of this kind before and will encourage people to try themselves in new ways.
