About this event
We are delighted to be hosting two Makan training sessions in one day.
Who is Makan?
Makan is a UK-registered charity.
Makan is an independent, non-partisan organisation dedicated to intersectional learning. They provide transformative education aimed at strengthening the movement for Palestinian liberation, contextualising Palestine within the broader framework of social justice and global liberation movements. Their programmes draw inspiration from historic and ongoing struggles, including the global anti-apartheid movement, the civil rights movement, the movement for Black lives, and the struggles of other Indigenous peoples.
Set up and led by members of the Palestinian diaspora, Makan works to strengthen the ability of advocates to talk about Palestine in a simple, fact-based manner that centres Palestinian knowledge production.
There are two options to buy tickets:
The first option is for the morning-only session. This is the correct place to buy morning-only tickets.

More about the training sessions
Morning - Reframing Palestine
In this training we delve into the key frameworks and concepts through which the Palestinian struggle can be understood, such as settler-colonialism, occupation, apartheid, peace process, Nakba, and more. Interweaving a historical and conceptual analysis of the trajectory of the Palestinian cause, this workshop offers a critical understanding of Palestine, its history, and the discourse around it.
Afternoon - How to Talk About Palestine
This workshop helps participants expand their skills when talking about Palestine by offering communication tips on how to engage in challenging conversations, and by building participants’ confidence to know how to respond to various arguments. Facilitating a safe discussion space, we take participants through a variety of talking points regularly heard in the media and the wider public conversation, and collectively analyse these arguments and how to respond to them.
This workshop is suitable for people with foundational or advanced knowledge on Palestine who would like to develop how to best debunk arguments in the mainstream narrative.
Frequently asked questions
We always aim to make our events as accessible as possible in every way. We often offer a pricing structure that allows people to pay as they choose. Each ticket purchased here gives you the same experience, yet allows you to 'pay as you are able'. Ticket sales go towards covering event costs.
Due to the limited capacity for the day, we are unable to offer refunds; however, if you can't make the event, we will attempt to find another person who would like to attend and we may be able to offer a refund if the ticket can be resold.
We will be unable to provide a separate space for children at this event. Both sessions require attendees to be quiet, listen, and concentrate throughout the training. To be fair to our trainers and other attendees, we must say that children can not come.
