Training for effective political lobbying: MPs and Councillors
Event Information
Description
Get skilled up in political lobbying to fight the government proposal on fracking and permitted development!
Getting our local MPs and councillors on board to carry the fight is crucial to winning on this issue.
The ministers behind the proposal will be persuaded to drop this proposal only if they are put under pressure by MPs and councilors to do so. And MPs and councillors will apply that pressure only if they’ve been persuaded to by us!
Focussing specifically on MPs (but most aspects are equally relevant and transferrable to councillors) this training offers insight, guidance, tips and practice for engaging your elected representatives effectively, and converting your contact into concrete actions by them in support of the campaign.
The session includes:
● Understanding and reading your MP
● Preparation for an MP meeting
● MP Conversation techniques and finding common ground
● Building relationship
● Campaigner behaviours
● Speaking to conservative values
● How and what to ask for, and follow up.
The training includes slides, presentation and interactive participatory exercises. It is action focused and covers top tips for how to build relationship with MPs - from reading body language to asking the right questions to getting the right people in the room.
