Every year we host an annual training session for the National Centre for Domestic Violence where our law students are trained to assist clients with issues of domestic violence. http://www.ncdv.org.uk/

The National Centre for Domestic Violence (NCDV) provides a free, fast emergency injunction service to survivors of domestic violence regardless of their financial circumstances, race, gender or sexual orientation.

Our award-winning service allows anyone who has recently suffered or been threatened with domestic violence to apply for an emergency court injunction. This can sometimes be issued within 24 hours of making contact with us. We work in close partnership with the police, solicitors and other support agencies (Refuge, Women’s Aid etc) to help victims obtain speedy protection

Did you know that placements like these can form part of the training requirement for entry into the legal profession?

This is a fantastic opportunity for all students to undertake casework, particularly of interest if you are undertaking or intend to undertake family law in your final year (or indeed you studied it already.)

We have 40 spaces for the training which has been scheduled for Wednesday 1 November during reading week. Training is 9:30-4pm with an hour for lunch. Once you have completed the training you can start to volunteer for NCDV. The sessions run from the University of Greenwich, Legal Advice Centre -mornings. You come along and we supervise/ support you doing the work. It really is a fantastic experience. You can take as many cases as you want once you’ve done the training.

We are opening sign up today via Eventbrite. Please book one ticket for the event by following this link.

It really is fantastic and valuable training which you should not miss out on if you want to volunteer with NCDV this year. It will not be repeated in the year. You can volunteer for NCDV throughout your time at University if you do the training and so it is great to get you started volunteering.

I ran a similar training when I worked at the University of law and LPC and Bar students used to volunteer. NCDV work experience is very well respected within the profession whether you want to undertake family law or any area of law. The skills you will learn are invaluable.

Best wishes,

Sally
