Providing evidence of your organisation's social impact has become increasingly important. Most charities cite requirements from outside funders as the key driver for measuring impact, as well as the wish to tell a present a narrative about the social value they generate.
This course has been specifically created for UK Charities and Social Enterprises. Over two days, you will learn and understand how to measure the social impact of your own organisation in a way that is:
- appropriate to the type of work that you do;
- rigorous; and
- cost-effective.
You will discover several different approaches to measuring impact and walk away with the ability to conduct and communicate a rigorous impact assessment of your organisation's activities - even if you have no prior experience with economic analysis.
Throughout this interactive course, you will have the opportunity to apply the new concepts you have learned through exercises and case studies. You will benefit from being taught by recognised experts in the field and the course will include an opportunity to pick the brains of a leading fundraising consultant.
By investing in learning how to measure your social impact you will not only increase your chances of obtaining funding, it will serve philanthropists make more informed investment decisions and often drive improvements in the delivery of key services also.

- Pratik Dattani: Economist and Managing Director at EPG who has led several impact measurement studies in the UK and abroad, including one in 2011 for a welfare-to-work provider launched at the Bank of England. He has published articles and papers on impact measurement, including Challenges and Misconceptions with SROI. He runs a large charitable organisation in his spare time.
- James Newell: Fundraising consultant and Senior Associate at Kingston Smith, and has led strategic voluntary income growth for a number of charities and causes. He is secretary of the Institute of Fundraising’s Trust and Statutory Fundraising Special Interest Group and a trustee for the Howard League for Penal Reform. He has completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Grantmaking, Philanthropy and Social Investment from Cass Business School.
- Harsha Patel: Harsha is the Managing Director of Doing Social, a social enterprise delivering innovative programmes that enable people to develop viable social ventures. Harsha has an MBA specialising in capacity building and over a decade of experience working in the Civil Society / Third sector. In that time, she has supported over 150 charities, not-for-profits and social enterprises, as a management consultant, trainer and project manager.
