Description
The Art of the Possible
10:00 - 12:30
Data is at the heart of 21st century government. It puts the citizen front and centre in public service delivery. It powers effective decision making on the front line. It makes government work for everyone, by better reflecting the world that we live in.
We are at the start of this journey - but I can’t wait to see how we can accelerate from here toward a public sector which is truly in service of the citizen. – John Manzoni, Chief Executive of the Civil Service, February 2017.
The Data Science Campus was created to apply data science and build skills, for the public good across the UK and Internationally. We work at the frontier of data science and AI, building skills and applying tools, methods and practices to create new understanding and improve decision making for public good.
This 90 minute bite-sized workshop aims to explore what data science is within Government and how it is being used to explore the issues and challenges around the building of the data science approach and tool-kits. Through showcasing our projects, the tools and techniques we are using you will follow our journey on how we are revolutionizing the way we work across Government. Highlighting how collaborating and sharing of big data and our data science skills is contributing towards policy decisions and therefore better end experiences for the citizen.
Organiser The Alan Turing Institute
Organiser of Training: The Art of the Possible: Data Science for Public Good
We are the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence.
The Institute is named in honour of Alan Turing, whose pioneering work in theoretical and applied mathematics, engineering and computing is considered to have laid the foundations for modern-day data science and artificial intelligence. The Institute’s goals are to undertake world-class research in data science and artificial intelligence, apply its research to real-world problems, driving economic impact and societal good, lead the training of a new generation of scientists, and shape the public conversation around data.
