LGBT Health and Wellbeing in partnership with the Talbot Rice Gallery invites trans and non-binary people to come and enjoy the current exhibition, followed by a creative session in the gallery.
Talbot Rice Gallery is a renowned contemporary art gallery in the heart of Edinburgh. Join us for a tour, followed by a creative session inspired by one of the artworks!
This 120-minute session will begin with an introduction to the exhibition, before moving into a workshop led by artist and writer Evelyn Whorrall-Campbell, whose research focuses on the history of transgender artistic and media practices.
Wael Shawky is a real storyteller, and he uses art and films to tell historical events from the Arabic perspective. Using marionettes made of glass and people as well as music inspired by traditional Middle Eastern music, the films are a real work of art! Alongside the films, the exhibition includes glass marionettes, drawings, sculptures, flags, and even a woodcut! Each marionette is a unique creation, dressed in different fabrics and adorned with distinctive elements.
Together, we’ll take inspiration from the work of Wael Shawky as we explore the exhibition and create our own marionettes. Guided by our imaginations, identities, and personal interests, we’ll craft unique characters that reflect our own stories.
