Event description
Transform Ageing has successfully brought together people in later life, community organisations, commissioners and social entrepreneurs

About this Event

In 2017 the National Lottery Community Fund awarded funding to a pioneering design-led programme in the South West aiming to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing us as we age. Transform Ageing was a cross-partnership with people in later life, social entrepreneurs, commissioners and community organisations.

After three years the programme is now coming to an end and the Showcase will celebrate its success and share the programme’s achievements and the rich learning we’ve gained.

More information about the Transform Ageing programme can be found here.

THREE OPEN SESSIONS FOR INNOVATION:

Session 1: Round Table for Funders & Commissioners

Chaired by Sarah Weir OBE, CEO, Design Council with special input from Cassie Robinson, Strategic Designer and Head of Digital Fund at NCLF and Jon Siddall, Funding Director, Guys and St Thomas Trust Charity.

The landscape of funding tools available and how we use them has changed significantly over the last few years. Despite this many great ideas are still being funded by short term grant funding making sustainability a challenge for many.

As part of this Round Table discussion specifically for funders, we will seek to answer the question ‘How might we fund social innovation, more flexibly in the future?’

Session 2: Different Ways of Engaging People in Later Life to Lead Change in Place

Led by Tarn Lamb, CEO, Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change & Jonathan Collie, Founder, Age of No Retirement.

The term ‘place based’ is currently used to describe a range of approaches, from grant-making in a specific geographic area to long-term, multifaceted collaborative partnerships aimed at achieving significant change. An important facet of place-based approaches is to build the capacity of the community to take charge of its own future, to speak for itself, and to build social capital and connections within the community.

In this session we will be seeking to answer the question ‘How might we partner more effectively with people in later life as part of place-based approaches?

Session 3: Co-Design for Innovators

Led by Cat Drew, Chief Design Officer, Design Council and Jennie Winhall, Systems Changer and Innovator.

This session will be an opportunity to experience some techniques to develop new ways of framing opportunities around later life, and the innovation and collaborations that might move us there.

In this participative co-design session, we will be looking to the future and answering such questions as: ‘What would a future vision for later life look like? Who else becomes relevant to this future? What would they be doing?’
