On Thursday the 15th of December, Making in Transit will host an event exploring the topic of TRANSFORMATION. This is the first of three events exploring this topic beginning with: issues of sustainability, waste and desgin; the transformation of bodliy material; and interactions between light and matter in making.
Discussing material life-cycles and how they effect how we create, consume and design products, Seetal Solanki explains the goals of her design consultancy ma_tt_er.org, looking at material lifecycles and issues of sustainability. Dr Gemma Angel will talk about bodily matters, the matter of which bodies are made and the ethics of keeping bodily material in a museum display, and artist Rachel Guardiola will explore the alchemy of celluloid film and how it captures an immaterial world.
In this evening's workshop discover how to use photo-reactive substances and make a pinhole camera (Camera Obscura) to explore the ethereal use of light in image-making.
