Event description

Description

Free public symposium

To accompany the exhibition by Annie Cattrell RSA FRBS in the Ruskin Gallery, 21 April to 19 May. Convened and chaired by Dr Marius Kwint, Reader in Visual Culture, University of Portsmouth.

Universities seek to transform lives and societies through education and research. Annie Cattrell’s forthcoming kinetic public artwork on the exterior of Anglia Ruskin University’s new Science Centre will celebrate this ideal by its ever-changing appearance. But what does transformation mean in practice? How can it occur physically, socially and mentally? How have such processes of metamorphosis and flux been experienced, understood and represented? In this interdisciplinary symposium, leading researchers trace the exciting theme of transformation through art, architecture, history, psychology and biology.

Welcome by Prof. Helen Valentine, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Anglia Ruskin University

Speakers include:

Steffen Lehmann (Professor of Architecture, University of Portsmouth)

Annie Cattrell (De Montfort University)

Sherria Hoskins (Professor of Psychology and Dean of Science, University of Portsmouth)
