About this Event

About this Event

The UK’s legal profession is currently facing major upheavals and the sector faces a set of unique challenges, yet during the disruption and change we also see many opportunities.

The promise of AI for lawyers lies in the automation of previously tedious manual processes that have not changed for decades. It is allowing lawyers, particularly in-house lawyers which we focus on here, to devote more time to valuable and strategic work. The current applications of AI in legal work includes drafting and reviewing contracts, mining documents in discovery and due diligence, answering routine questions or sifting data to predict outcomes.

Join us for our unique and free to attend event tailored for the Legal Sector with an agenda aligned to combat the sector’s business challenges, hosted at Microsoft’s London offices on September the 18th.

Alongside our partners, Microsoft and Circyl, we aim to explore the opportunities and showcase the technology that is impacting the legal sector and challenging the day-to-day operations. There is a real risk of falling behind without innovation and embracing the opportunities available and hopefully, this event will help you on your digital transformation journey and build the future of your organisation. Sign up and reserve your seat today.

If this event is not suitable for you, we host regular both sector specific and not specific events and webcasts which can be found on our website listings.

10:45am The Common Data Model, a platform for change in the Legal Sector , Fran Thomas, Co-Founder at cloudThing

Fran Thomas is a co-founder and technical director at cloudThing; he’s been an industry leading Solutions Architect for over a decade. Fran excels at seeing the bigger picture and using technology to solve real world problems. During this live demo, Fran will demonstrate the differences in technology between a Legal Firm that was set up today and the technology of a historic firm with legacy processes and applications. Fran will showcase how moving to a Cloud Platform for your firm's IT can enable Law firms to make the most of existing IT investments, whilst deploying new IT solutions to ensure the firm is competitive in terms of price, service levels and able to make more margin on matters.

11:45am Live customer case study: De Pinna, Peter Adams Partner at De Pinna

Founded in 1775, De Pinna are a trusted notary organisation with around 50 employees situated in the heart of London’s West End. Like many Law firms, an organisation that has existed for hundreds of years tends to have some legacy processes and documents in need of updating. De Pinna started their journey to modernisation with cloudThing, and are now the only ISO 27001 compliant firm of notaries in the UK. They are also able to better report on daily activities within the firm and respond to GDPR requests in a timely and accurate manner. Peter Adams is a Partner at De Pinna and will discuss their journey to the cloud from a business perspective. Peter will discuss how the culture in De Pinna towards technology changed as they moved to a secure modern workplace.

12:30pm – Lunch

1:30pm The Modern Law Firm. Stephen Brown, Head of Project Services at Lights-On Consulting

Lights-On is a truly independent, leading IT and management consultancy practice with particular strengths in the legal and professional services sectors. Before joining Lights-On, Stephen was the IT Director of Higgs & Sons and has 17 years’ experience of working in the legal industry. Stephen will discuss the view of Senior Partners within Law Firms and how he sees technology impacting the sector.

2:00pm Demonstrating “The art of the possible” utilising your data , Andy Mclean, Head of Data & Analytics at Circyl

AI is having a profound effect on the way organisations, and even entire industries, operate and utilise data with huge potential to change the whole legal sector.

Machine Learning and Data Science are hot topics with good reason and while it can seem intimidating when looking to implement these solutions into a firm, the reality is a firm already holds a lot of this data and needs an IT solution to bring it to life. Andy will showcase real-time dashboards using a common Cloud Data Model. Through real-time reports, Partners and Business Decision Makers can see an accurate overview of the firm's performance, with the ability to drill-down to show information on individual fee earners and matters. Insight into performance and forecasting future resource requirements can enable a firm to offer a better service, and outperform competitors.

2:45pm, Utilising powerful bots in the legal sector powered by AI Ed Yau, Solution Architect at cloudThing

Fee Earners are protected from having their time spent on calls by Reception Staff, Legal Secretaries, Legal Executives and more within the firm. However, as other industries are able to offer clients 24/7 access to information, Legal Secretaries are overwhelmed with responding to clients that expect an immediate response. This means less time is spent doing the work that assists in the completion of matters, and therefore more time is spent replying to simple enquiries. Ed Yau, Bots and AI expert at cloudThing, will offer a live demonstration of how simple it can be to set up an always on, readily available Customer Service bot within your firm to triage and respond to client enquiries through a variety of digital channels. From updates on a property purchase, to notifying a client when a document is ready for review, bots can save law firms hours and hours of billable time. A bot is an inexpensive, quick way to start consuming cutting edge cloud technology that can make an immediate business impact, assisting clients with enquiries and directing internal staff to where a vital document is held, at any time, day or night.
