About this Event

Sotheby’s Institute of Art is thrilled to invite you to join our engaging panel of experts as they discuss the increasing importance and future evolution of the art logistics industry within the international cultural industries, and identify vital challenges and opportunities emerging through the recalibration of traditional business structures. Chaired by Programme Director, Gareth Fletcher, panellists Jess Houlgrave, Robert Eustace and Dave Collis will consider the impact of emerging digital technologies on global cultural supply chains within the international art market, and evaluate the current roles and future responsibilities of institutions and businesses operating within this dynamic and responsive industry.

This event is being held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sotheby’s Institute of Art and launch of the new MA in Art Logistics programme.

Speaker Biographies:

Gareth Fletcher, Programme Director, MA Art Logistics, Sothebys Institute of Art, London.

Gareth Fletcher is a Lecturer in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. He is Leader of the Art Crime and Art and its Markets summer study courses. He also lectures on Strategy and Risk Management as part of the Business Management in the Art World Executive Education program; Strategic Planning as part of the Business Management of an Art Gallery program, and the Contemporary Art Market as part of the Frieze Art Fair: Contemporary Art Today program. He has received a TECHNE AHRC scholarship to pursue his PhD examining the semiotics of provenance as institutional construct in the establishment of cultural and economic value in the market for Near Eastern antiquities.

Dave Collis, General Manager (Secure Storage), Constantine Ltd

Dave Collis transferred over to Constantine Ltd. with the closure of Christie’s CFASS London in 2014 where he had been the building’s Security Controller. The closure and transfer of CFASS took over six months with the bulk of the clients moving directly to Constantine’s specifically built Secure Storage Unit. Dave worked as the Security Controller at Constantine Ltd. with control of all day to day activities for the Secure Storage Unit until late 2016 when he made the General Manager for the Secure Storage Unit. Prior to this Dave had worked at numerous City of London and Dockland sites in various security roles.

Robert Eustace, Director of European Shipping, ARTA

Robert Eustace is Director of European Shipping at ARTA, an API and platform delivering global white glove logistics and services. Prior to ARTA, Rob worked for 3 years in both London and New York for white glove shipping companies before heading to London to establish ARTA Europe in 2017. Today, ARTA is used by top galleries, advisors, collectors and institutions worldwide. Rob holds an Msc degree from the University of Nottingham.

Jess Houlgrave, Trustee, Foundation for Art and Blockchain

Jess Houlgrave is the Founder at shEOS, a block producer for EOS working to increase diversity in blockchain through funding women's technical education. Ms. Houlgrave is Trustee at the Foundation for Art and Blockchain where their mission is to help artists engage with blockchain. Previously co-founder @ Codex Protocol, a decentralised registry for valuable collectibles and art.
