Breathing—easy, right?
It sounds like it hardly needs an explanation. We do it around 24,000 times a day, often without a second thought. The interesting thing about breathing is that it is one of the few functions that is both conscious and unconscious.
Feel into your breathing now. Is it fast? Is it shallow? Is there a pause somewhere?
In fact, our breathing is as unique as our fingerprint, and it can reveal much about how we live our lives. This is because we change our breathing patterns to help us navigate daily stresses, life challenges, and traumatic events throughout our lives. For instance, we may hold our breath when stressed or anxious, or perhaps we notice those repetitive sighs we take—they’re all signs of unhelpful breathing patterns.
Place a hand on your belly and your chest. Where is your breath right now?
When we breathe into our chest, we tend to stimulate our sympathetic nervous system, or ‘fight or flight’ response. Over time, this can become our default breathing pattern.
Chronic stimulation of ‘fight or flight’ stress hormones can affect our mood, sleep, digestion, hormone regulation, immune system, blood pressure, and circulation, leaving us feeling tired, sluggish, and fatigued.
So, imagine what it would be like for each breath to be your fullest, healthiest, and most nourishing breath, moment to moment! It would feel great, right? When we breathe better, we feel better.
As registered Transformational Breath® facilitators and professionals in physiotherapy and speech and language therapy, we understand the value of optimal breathing. Breathwork helps expand and utilize your full respiratory system, improving energy levels through better oxygenation and balancing the flow of energy to positively impact emotional well-being, physical healing, and repair.
Our passion for Breathwork began with our own personal journeys of transformation, and this is why we are so committed to sharing the powerful benefits of breath with you. As it helped us, we know it can transform your life too. Through our own experiences, we hope to support your growth and healing as we step into the latter half of 2024.
“Your mind, emotions, and body are instruments, and the way you align and tune them determines how well you play life.”
— Harbhajan Singh Yogi
What is Transformational Breath®?
Transformational Breath® is a unique self-healing process that uses a conscious connected breathing system to optimize our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Our breathing patterns change over time in response to the emotional challenges we all face in life. Since our breath changes in response to these challenges, correcting unhelpful breathing patterns allows us to change the way we live our lives, letting go of old beliefs and behaviors. Changing your breath will literally change your life!
The Benefits:
More energy and vitality
Improved circulation and reduced blood pressure
Enhanced detoxification (we eliminate 70% of toxins through the breath)
Boosted immune system
Greater emotional regulation
Improved mood, a calm mind, and greater mental clarity
Deepened yoga and meditation practice
Elevated intuition and a conscious connection with the higher self
More Details for Participants:
Transformational Breath® works on three levels:
Physical Level: This involves improvements in the mechanics of our breathing patterns. With a full, open, free-flowing breath, we can bring more life force or ‘prana’ into the body, creating more energy and vitality, moment to moment. Optimal movement of the lungs and diaphragm massages the internal organs, aids the lymphatic system in eliminating toxins, and improves the immune system. There is also a release of muscular tension as muscles that have been used to manage emotions are released and relaxed.
Emotional Level: Our experience of fundamental consciousness operates on both a physical and mental level; it's impossible to separate the two. They work together to process and integrate the emotions related to our lived experiences. When we encounter stress, life challenges, and trauma, we may suppress or repress emotions and feelings, causing them to become contracted and stored in the tissues of the body. This safe, simple, and effective technique allows past trauma, energetic blockages, and unhelpful subconscious emotional patterns to be cleared and integrated permanently. Once cleared, we can open ourselves up to more love, peace, and joy in our lives as we connect with our authentic selves.
Spiritual Level: Each person relates to this level in their unique way, whether it’s through a deity outside, a higher self within, or a deeper connection with nature and the world around us. There is a wide spectrum of beliefs we can tune into to find meaning in our existence. By uncovering and integrating old emotional patterns and societal expectations, we can experience more clarity, peace of mind, and a deeper sense of connection with others, the world around us, and the less tangible aspects of our existence.
The better we breathe, the better we feel.
