About this event

This course is for school leaders in international schools who want to better understand and implement an effective whole-school approach towards multilingual learners who use EAL.

Participants will be provided with frameworks, research and case studies to communicate a clear vision for multilingual provision in their setting, evaluate existing provision and set concrete goals and next steps for development.

Course structure:

Module 1:

Pre-webinar online tasks, completed at your own pace over a two-week period.

You will:

You will explore the shifting perspectives and ideologies around multilingualism and inclusion and the implications for the organisation of EAL provision at your school. This will include evaluating your own EAL provision through the lens of academic, linguistic and social inclusion and the attitudes of teaching staff and understanding how this provision aligns with the ethos and vision for your school.

Time commitment: A minimum of 2 hours, although if you decide to complete all optional tasks, this may take up to 5 hours.


Module 2:

Live interactive webinar with the course tutors:

  • Option 1: 9 March 2026, 12:30 UK time (UTC+0).
  • Option 2: 10 March 2026, 10:00 UK time (UTC+0).

You will:

Explore how to create a school culture than enables multilingual learners to thrive. You will discuss practical ways to get buy-in from students, staff and families by looking at case studies and sharing ideas with course colleagues.

Time commitment: 1 hour.


Module 3:

Post-webinar project to implement learning from the course, followed by tutor feedback.

You will choose a specific area of focus for development in your school, learn about the key issues within your chosen area and develop an action plan outlining next steps for developing multilingual provision in your school(s). You can focus on the following areas:

  • Setting school policy for multilingual provision;
  • CPD for EAL;
  • Assessment, data collection and accountability.

You will also be able to share ideas and learnings with other participants.

Time commitment: A minimum of 2 hours, although if you decide to complete all optional tasks, this may take up to 5 hours.
