About this Event

Samye Foundation Wales is delighted that Tibetan Buddhist monk Gelong Thubten will visit our dedicated Mindfulness centre in Cardiff to give a course entitled 'Transforming Life's Challenges through Mindfulness'

Gelong Thubten will present an ongoing course on mindfulness and meditation over the coming months. This can be followed as a step by step training, but people are also welcome to come to individual sessions or to join at any time.

October session is on Saturday 19th 2019 Please register to reserve a seat. There is a suggested donation of £20 for each session and a donation bowl will be at the door.

The November session is on Tuesday 12th 2019,

December session 2019 - date and time to be confirmed

and the course will continue next year .....

This will be an ongoing number of progressive talks on meditation and mindfulness, with a special focus on how to work creatively with life's challenges and difficulties. Thubten will explain methods that help transform unhappiness into joy through developing resilience, strength and compassion. There will be a combination of theory and practice, with time for questions.

Gelong Thubten is one of the directors of Samye Foundation Wales, and he also directs Samye Dzong Scarborough.

He ordained as a Buddhist monk 26 years ago at Samye Ling, and his training has included spending over six years in intensive, isolated meditation retreats, the longest of which was four years long. He has studied under some of the most experienced Tibetan masters.

He spent 20 years as the late Akong Tulku Rinpoche’s secretary and assistant.

As well as teaching at many of our centres, Thubten provides meditation courses to the Silicon Valley tech giants and many other global companies. He also works with schools, major universities, hospitals and prisons. He is a world pioneer, as he introduced these techniques into the corporate sector over 20 years ago, before the mindfulness trend had emerged. His approach includes the development of compassion, which greatly enhances the benefits of the training.

He previously collaborated on the book ‘How to be Human’ with Ruby Wax and neuroscientist Ash Ranpura, and Thubten’s own book, ‘A Monk’s Guide to Happiness’ has become a Sunday Times bestseller.

Thubten was the meditation consultant for the Marvel film Dr Strange and he now provides talks and courses for the United Nations.
