Description

In connection to the Transgender Day of Rememberance, MHCLG's LGBTQ+ network have arranged for a trans-led charity to come and speak to the department about transgender issues and awareness. This session is open to all regardless of RSVP. If you have any questions, concerns or require dial-in details in advance, please contact Michael Grace on Michael.grace@communities.gov.uk

Trans Awareness: The Basics (90 minute training session)

With an estimated 1% of the population falling somewhere on the broad “trans” spectrum, public facing organisations are likely to encounter a range of diverse trans people in the course of their professional work. Employers, too, need to be ready and able to welcome, include and support trans people as part of their workforce.

This session explores what ‘trans’ means and the diversity of those who might use the term, introducing key concepts crucial to understanding trans people. It will give an overview of the main legislation relating to trans identities and outline ways an organisation can work towards being trans-inclusive.

The session is interactive and questions are encouraged throughout to provide an opportunity to discuss the topics covered and to open the dialogue to key issues that matter to them within the context of MHCLG.

About the trainer:

Gendered Intelligence are a trans-led charity working directly with some 500 young trans and gender questioning people from diverse backgrounds across the course of a year, primarily through our youth groups and 1:1 mentoring services. Their experiences inform our wider work.

We train widely across all settings, and have worked, for example, in a variety of local authority settings, educational settings including schools, colleges, universities, large international commercial organisations, arts settings, small charities, foster care / children's home settings, CAMHS and secure mental health settings, residential clinics, as well as across the wider statutory, not-for-profit and commercial sectors.

All our trainers are professional trainers/facilitators who are also trans identified, and who have extensive grassroots trans-community backgrounds.
