Transgressing Boundaries: New ways of working with Transgender People
The training and workshop will give an overview of gender identities and current treatment for gender dysphoria. Our ways of understanding gender identity and dysphoria has changed and many professionals remain unaware of changes in clinical practice, and the reasons behind new service model. The workshop will give up to date information, from well experienced individuals in the field. Discussions group exercises and illustrative case examples will be used to stimulate thinking and learning.

Dr Saju Padakkara: Dr Saju qualified as a Psychiatrist from India. He worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Bradford district Care Trust for 4 years. He later qualified as a Medical Psychotherapist in CBT and in this position, worked in York and continues to work in Wakefield with South-west Yorkshire NHS Trust. He has been working as Consultant Psychiatrist at Leeds Gender Identity Service for over seven years. Outside his work with transgender patients, He has an enduring interest in working psychotherapeutically with complex PTSD and personality disorders.
Dr Peter Hammond: Peter Hammond qualified from Oxford in 1987 and trained mostly at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School before becoming a Consultant Physician specialising in diabetes and endocrinology in Harrogate in 1996. He has established Harrogate as a nationally recognised centre for insulin pump therapy and related technologies, such as continuous glucose sensing, and been an expert adviser to both NICE appraisals of insulin pump therapy and a member of the NICE Type 1 Diabetes in Adults guideline development group. He has been endocrinology lead for the Leeds Gender Identity Service since 2007 and is a member of the working group developing NHS transgender prescribing guidelines.
Sophie Bracewell: Sophie is a transwoman who works for Leeds Gender ID Clinic doing outreach in the community offering one to one, group and drop-in sessions. Sophie has also worked as a volunteer providing peer support to the local trans community and facilitating support groups.
Dr Heather Wood: Is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked in the GIDS for four years and has presented at domestic and international conferences about her work with gender diverse youth and their families. She works with Tavistock and Portman NHS Gender Identity Development Service
Mr DK Green: Mr Green have many years of UK professional counselling studies and qualifications including a two year Post Grad Diploma in Gender & Sexuality Studies with Pink Therapy. Mr Green’s web site states: “I will take you from who and where you are now, closer to who and where you want to be, using your own mind, body and spirit.”
Helen Karminski: Helen have worked as a qualified nurse in the Leeds Gender Identity Service for two and a half years. Prior to working in the Leeds Gender Service she worked in mental health services both as a nurse and an art psychotherapist.

There is ample free parking including disabled parking at the Hotel. Bingley train station is 2 miles away
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes please
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Yes that is fine, as long as you have a copy of the ticket.
Does the hotel cater for dietary requirements?
