Event description

Description

A gathering for women actively working in rites of passage, and nature-based leadership, for girls and women.

As rites of passage and nature work grows in both global awareness and research rigour, we seek to gather practitioners to create space to share what is emerging in this work, learn from each other, and ask some of the emerging questions arising from our experience such as:

  • What calls in this work, in us and the world?

  • Why are we focusing on girls and women?

  • How do we respond to the changing face of gender?

  • How do we support ourselves and each other in this work?

  • How can Rites of Passage serve in a time of global crisis?

  • What teachings and traditions are we drawing on and how can these be adapted, or not, to meet the needs of women and girls now?

You will be invited to share your stories, experiences of involvement with this work, as well as your dreams for the future. Our intention is that we are all there to offer support to each other and collaboratively address individual and collective challenges that we all face as we move forward towards these visions.

We will utilise an Open Space Technology framework to set the agenda for the weekend in order to give you and all of the participants the opportunity to ask questions, raise topics for discussion, as well as share your wealth of knowledge and wisdom based on your unique experiences.

The group of women who have already expressed interest in attending this event collectively have many decades of experience in different facets of this work, and there will be a rich wealth of knowledge being shared during these sessions.

The gathering will be supported by a circle of Elders and experienced women, who will hold the process throughout its development and delivery, through listening circles, witnessing and ceremony. The women who have already agreed to offer their time in support of the gathering include Carolyn Hillyer, Annie Spencer, Jewels Wingfield, Azul-Valérie Thomé, and Sharon Blackie (supporting as part of the wider listening circle).

Pricing:

The weekend costs a base rate of £160 to cover accommodation, food, and basic costs. We ask everyone to pay at registration including a £50 non-refundable deposit. Spaces are limited to 40! After registering on Eventbrite, the confirmation email will contain a link to make payment via PayPal to secure your place. There will also be an invitation to a closed facebook group.

We also are asking everyone to bring food for a shared pot luck meal on the Thursday evening to help keep costs down. All other meals which are organic and vegetarian are included. Please indicate if you require any special diets on your booking form.

The price includes shared accomodation in Embercombe's yurt villages. Each yurt is furnished with comfortable beds and wood fired stove. There are compost toilets and running water. Full bathroom facilities and hot showers are available in the main building. You can see more on Embercombe's website.

We are running this event at cost price, to make it accessible as possible. As a gathering (as opposed to a programme) it is an opportunity and an invitation to all those attending to share their knowledge over the weekend. If you are able, you are also invited to make a voluntary contribution to the women who have worked to make the event happen.

For questions on the gathering please contact Israh Goodall via israhgoodall@gmail.com.
