The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) will be hosting an Exploitation Day to showcase innovations from the Transparent Materials Phase 2 competition. The purpose of this event is to encourage collaboration and focus between stakeholders and suppliers with a view to further developing exploitation routes.

Who Should Attend?

• Users where transparent material is a key component

• An Industry sector that may be able to integrate this technology into a larger system or platform

• Public sector organisations interested in integrating these technologies

Agenda

The agenda will follow shortly but will consist of:

• Presentation sessions giving contracted suppliers the opportunity to introduce their projects

• An open networking session allowing interested attendees to discuss projects in more detail with suppliers

• Presentations by DASA and the Armed Forces

What technologies are being developed and matured?

There were 4 successful suppliers who gained funding through DASA. These are:

• Edinburgh University is developing nanoscale engineering of anti-glint materials using synthetic biology and protein design.

• Imperial College London is exploiting the synthetic biology modification of bacterial cellulose to produce hornified pellicles which can reinforce transparent materials such as acrylic and thereby develop transparent composite armour and new material properties.

• Swansea University is developing a synthetic biology-inspired composite adhesive for transparent defense materials.

• Synbiosys is developing a transparent ceramic material which uses a unique approach to stopping bullets and has the potential to revolutionise bullet-resistant materials.

The event will take place in Andover – more details will be released if you are successful during the expression of interest.
