Transport User Personas: putting people at the heart of our decisions

Users of transport have different needs, preferences and behaviour traits.

Social Researchers in the Department for Transport (DfT) have developed 'Transport User Personas', an engaging, evidence-based tool that helps put people at the heart of decision-making within DfT.

The presentation will focus on how the team (i) developed impactful and accessible outputs; and (ii) took a creative approach to dissemination within DfT and externally.

Twelve Personas have been developed from a mixed-method research study that segmented people aged 16 and over in England into nine segments based on shared demographic, attitudinal and behavioural traits.

The function does not remove the professional identities of each individual profession. It brings them together to be greater than the sum of its parts and to make efficiencies.
