Adoption is something complex, full of layers. One area that deserves more attention and conversation is the topic of transracial adoption. This transracial adoption group, led by fellow teen adoptee, Laura Dixon, is for teens (Ages 12-18) and designed to give teens living this experience a chance to connect with others who share this blessing and struggle. In the group we will dive deep into issues regarding race and prejudice, identity and belonging and overall, embrace the beauty of our differences.
During this on-going group, teens will:
- Connect with racial mirrors and other transracially adopted teens
- Dive into topics such as race, prejudice, the term "white-washed" and how it impacts us
- Work towards embracing our differences and identity
- Hear personal life experiences from other transracial adoptees and relate to one another in a connecting and supportive environment
We all know the reality of adoption and the identity struggles that can come along with it, so let's work through them together!
