Transylvanian Ceilidh - International Roma Day Celebration
Event Information
About this event
For the first time, Ando Glaso brings the International Roma Day to Scotland's capital to celebrate Roma culture through authentic Gypsy music and dance.
The evening will take you on a journey to the heart of Roma communities with the help of:
Taraful din Glasgow - a group of Roma musicians from the Bihor region of Transylvania playing authentic Gypsy music on their traditional instruments such as the horn violin. With the help of dance caller Tamas Ferencz you will be able to join the dances and experience a real village party from Transylvania.
Formatia Express - from the Moldova region of Romania via Kirkcaldy this father and daughter based group will bring both traditional and modern Gypsy music to party the night away. Their repertoire ranges from "lautar" music made famous by Taraf de Haidouks to more modern genres such as manele.
