Trauma is recognised as a profound and global public health crisis and the pervasive and harmful impact of traumatic experiences on individuals, families, and communities has made it essential for local public systems to rethink their ‘core business’ to recognise the impact of trauma in a place. The EPHC theme in collaboration with the ARC COREN are holding a free online lunchtime workshop to learn more about projects being undertaken in Lancashire to support the development of trauma informed approaches

In Blackburn with Darwen, through partnership working, a Trauma Informed Framework has been co designed and developed to support its collaborative commitment to recognising and addressing the prevalence of trauma within the borough. It has been created to represent all services and to provide a clear vision which will bring all partners and sectors along the ACEs/trauma-informed journey, whilst still allowing for growth and development.

Healthy Living have carried out two Citizens’ Juries on ‘Trauma Informed communities.’ This was the first time that these groups of residents had the opportunity to learn about the impact of adverse childhood experiences and trauma and the wider impact it has on communities. They have since secured funding from the Lottery to reach the people whose lives it affects the most.

The EPHC Team have been working with members of the Lancashire Violence Reduction Network to support their evaluations of trauma informed approaches to communities and broader impact. We will present some of our thoughts and reflections on how to frame trauma informed approaches as place based and evolve past individual behaviours to examining ‘traumatogenic environments’
