Trauma-informed Practice with Adult Refugees (for therapists)
Event Information
About this Event
The Refugee Council we has over 17 years of experience providing trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, therapy to refugees and asylum seekers from a wide variety of countries and backgrounds. Our trainers are all qualified specialist therapists with hands-on experience of delivering individual and group therapeutic interventions to this client population and can draw on real-life examples from their practice.
Many mental health professionals are not trained specifically to support refugee and asylum seeking populations. Refugee clients often deal with multiple difficulties at once –having witnessed and/ or experienced extremely traumatic events, having lost relatives and loved ones, as well as adjusting to a life in a new country, and finding themselves subject to a complicated and often lengthy asylum application process.
Course suitability
Qualified therapists with mental health or therapeutic responsibilities for adult refugees, advanced students also welcome.
Course Overview
This course helps delegates to further their understanding of complex trauma and discover psychologically-informed approaches to providing timely and effective therapeutic support for this client group. Based on the Refugee Council’s therapeutic care model, the course also facilitates professional sharing from delegate experience and relevant Refugee Council case studies, with a focus on adults and families.
Participants have given us consistently positive feedback:
‘The trainer was very informative and flexible, with the ability to listen to different experiences in the group and facilitate discussion. Informative, moving and inspiring session.’
‘I really enjoyed the whole course. It was really interesting and thought provoking and gave me lots to go away and think about.’
