Each workshop will present an aspect of trauma - 20 trauma responses and 20 workshops!

In this workshop, Philippa will present 'TRAUMA REPEATS UNTIL IT IS RESOLVED' drawn from the third chapter of the book. We will look at triggering in trauma and the multitude of ways triggers work.

About the Book:

20 Ways to Break Free From Trauma published 2025 is aA Life-Changing Toolkit for Psychological Recovery

Emerging after the first lockdown, her book about trauma is published by Jessica Kingsley. This is a book to help ground us and help us find our equilibrium when buffeted by the world.

20 Ways to Break Free from Trauma distils the author's extensive knowledge of trauma into focused areas of self-help, unveiling practical insights for developing self compassion and healing deep and often hidden wounds.

Trauma is often invisible but profoundly impactful, It's an experience that gets under our skin, and its effects can be hard to throw off. It can cut us off from ourselves and break our hearts.

Philippa wrote this book to bring what is hidden into the light, dismantle stigma, and offer hope for transformation.

Philippa Smethurst

I am Philippa, a counsellor, psychotherapist, supervisor and author with over 30 years experience. I trained originally at the Metanoia Institute in Integrative Psychotherapy. I have also trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Complex Trauma and Dissociation.

I am a visiting tutor at the Banbury Counselling Academy.

My special interest is in trauma. I have published several papers on the subject and contributed chapters in a book: 'The Change Process in Psychotherapy During Troubling Times' (2022: Routledge). My long held interest in working with the homeless and in training volunteers is in making theory accessible through psych-education and using straightforward tools to help regulate the nervous system.

My videos on the 20 point tour of trauma are soon to be released on U-Tube. Please look out for them as they give a great taster and my ideas about trauma!
