Event description
This course is for staff with direct and frequent contact with people who may be survivors of trauma to gain understanding and knowledge.

About this event

This training will have two sessions on Tuesday 22 June ( 9:15 – 11:30 and 12:45 – 15:00) and a morning session on 29th June 2021 ( 9:15 – 11:30 ).

Trauma Skilled Practice course is for staff with direct and frequent contact with people who may be survivors of trauma.   It is assumed that you have learned at an introductory level about trauma through the Level 1 workshop or equivalent similar courses.  In Health in Mind, this course is for all staff who are working directly supporting people.

This training sits at the Skilled Practice Level 2 in the National Trauma Training Skills Framework.

Aim

  • To be able to develop working relationships based on trauma-informed principles of trust, collaboration, choice, empowerment and safety.

Objectives

  • For workers to gain an understanding of the impact of trauma for different populations, life stages and types.

  • For workers to be able to recognise when an individual requires psychological support and where and how to refer them on

  • To recognise when an individual or dependents are experiencing harm linked to discrimination.

  • Staff will learn the current guidance and protocols for assessing and managing risk

  • Workers will learn appropriate trauma-informed ways of supporting disclosure.

  • Workers will learn about their own responses and reactions to trauma and how to look after themselves.

  • Workers will learn about the options for care, support and therapy to support individuals.

  • Staff will learn about the successful recovery and fulfilling lives of persons affected by trauma

Trainer

Emily Steedman has over 13 years’ experience of working with Health in Mind. Currently she is a Project Worker with the Trauma Support Services. Emily has a keen interest and passion for using creative tools to foster collective advocacy and raise awareness of the difficulties and barriers faced by people affected by trauma. She has an MSc in Community Education and many years of experience facilitating workshops.

This online course will be delivered through Zoom. 

Training bookings on Eventbrite are best paid for by credit or debit card using Visa, Mastercard or American Express. 

If you need to cancel your booking and give more than 28 days’ notice, we will refund 50% of your fee.  If due to unforeseen circumstances we have to change the course date, and it is not suitable for you, we will refund 100% of the payment.
