Event description

Description

Don’t rush off - join our after-work get togethers.

Top tips, advice, technical know-how, photo ideas… and a glass of something cheery. Our series of informal chats are tailored to fit in with your busy lives. Travel Geeks: Rush Hour is just an hour long, and offers you the chance to hear from our experts, share a drink and join in the lively debate.

A land of ancient traditions, tranquil beauty and exotic mystique, but also a land of modern megacities and relentless innovation — few countries captivate as much as Japan. In this event, in association with Intrepid Travel, our panel shares their tips and stories, and offers the answers to all your Japan-related queries: from when and where to go to how to navigate this famously unique and fascinating culture. All you have to do is come armed with a curious mind, your burning questions and any ideas you’d like to discuss.

Panel

Kylie Clark, Japan House
Kylie’s experience began with a year at a high school in the rural north of Akita. Since then, she has studied and worked in Japan, and arranged press trips for the media all over the country during her time at Japan National Tourism Organisation. She is now working towards opening Japan House, a one-stop shop for all things Japan-related, set to open in central London in late 2017.

Tom Bray, Intrepid Travel
Tom is the travel-obsessed sales team leader at Intrepid’s Brixton headquarters. Having spent six months working and travelling in Japan, he has insider’s view on the best way to discover this diverse country. Elsewhere, Tom’s most memorable travel experience was driving a three wheeled tuk tuk 4,500 kilometers across India.

Nicola Trup, travel journalist
Nicola is a journalist, and former deputy travel editor of The Independent and the London Evening
Standard
. She's a big fan of Tokyo, and recently spent time exploring its quieter, but arguably cooler, corners, and has plenty of tips on the best places to go in Tokyo and beyond.

Oliver Hilton Johnson, sake specialist
Ollie is the director of award-winning Tengu Sake: an import, wholesale and retail company dealing solely in quality Japanese sake. Tengu Sake supplies some of the UK’s finest restaurants as well as delivering directly to the public via tengusake.com. Oliver teaches the International Kikisake-shi qualification in London and leads talks, tastings and food pairings through the UK and is also sake educator for the British Sake Association.
