Come and learn TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises), developed by Dr David Berceli, the body's own natural healing mechanism, sometimes referred to as 'shaking' or 'tremoring' to discharge pent-up tension from the body. TRE helps to down-regulate and calm the nervous system, allowing deep resting and relaxation in the body and mind.
Here are 5 ways TRE® can help you:
- It reconnects you to your body – to heal trauma, you don’t need to understand or to remember
- It’s a natural, animal reflex you can re-learn
- It helps you to move from dissociation to embodiment
- It teaches you self-regulation, how to be with intense feelings — without becoming overwhelmed.
- It’s helps us learn how to go slowly.
TRE involves following a sequence of exercises that finish on the floor so bring something comfortable to wear as well as your own yoga mat, blanket, cushion/pillow and a water bottle.
The sessions follows the following format:
- Brief introductions and check-in.
- Opening relaxation/meditation
- Five standing exercises and a floor sequence.
- 'Shaking/tremoring' for 10-15 minutes. You will be taught how to stop the process for yourself at any time.
- A period of rest and integration.
- An opportunity to share your experience.
Mobile phones/tablets need to be switched off during the session.
Please refrain from using any substances, including alcohol, whilst attending this event.
Please arrive punctually for the session to start on time. You may arrive 15 minutes early to set up your space.
For most people there are no contraindications that would prevent you from benefitting from TRE though you need to be able to cope with light/moderate exercise including knee bends, though some of these can be skipped if necessary. Those with recent injuries and ongoing PTSD/trauma symptoms should message Edward before participating. Please also message Edward if you have an active mental health diagnosis and/or are receiving therapy.
Edward is a qualified TRE facilitator.
It is a good idea to drink plenty of water after the session. Though many people can find TRE energising it can make some people tired so allow yourself the possibility of some time and space for rest/reflection if needed.
TRE doesn't normally bring up psychological content though this is also possible so it is also helpful to identify someone you can talk to should this happen.
There is free or low-cost parking at or near the venue and feel free to arrive upto 15 minutes before the event starts to set up your space.
