Treasures of North Cumbria
Wed 17 May 2017, 08:00 – 18:00 BST
The first vist is to the extraordinary church of St Mary's at Wreay, an inspired single-handed creation by Sara Losh in the 1840s. Jenny Uglow gives an account in her bestselling book The Pinecone. The lunch venue is the historic Dacre Hall at Lanercost and this will be followed by a tour of the priory. The trip will conclude with a guided visit to St Martin's, Brampton, the only church designed by Philip Webb and known particularly for its richly-coloured stained glass windows, among the finest ever created by Burne-Jones.
The coach will leave Scotch Corner Services (all day parking charges apply) at 8.00 a.m. and pick up at the Bowes Museum at 8.30 a.m.
