Event description

Description

A special event devoted to your digestive system and fermentation.

More and more research is linking good gut health to physical and mental wellbeing – from digestive health and metabolism to immunity and even mood. This full day’s course will cover key facts around these benefits, alongside hands-on activities where you will cook and ferment your own dishes to eat and take away.

A morning on gut health

Registered nutritionist Fran Taylor will take you through the essentials of your gastrointestinal system, including:

  • The low-down on beneficial bacteria.
  • The link between the gut and the brain.
  • The impact of stress on the gut.
  • The difference between probiotics and prebiotics.
  • The role of fibre in gut health.
  • The factors that can affect your gut health.

You’ll also work through some delicious, gut-healthy recipes using a fermented milk kefir and have the opportunity to have your own your digestive dilemmas answered.

Whether you’ve suffered digestive discomfort for a long time or just feel like you could do with a healthy kick start, Fran's evidence-based approach may help.

What previous participants said:

  • "Brilliant teacher and course... Found it really useful to ask questions."
  • "Leader was very knowledgeable and provided a wealth of information."
  • "Liked the balance between discussion and cookery."

An afternoon of fermentation

Fermentation expert Olivia Wall of Wild Cultures will show you just how easy and affordable the art of fermentation can be, leading you through kimchi, probiotic ginger beer, milk kefir (dairy and non-dairy) and kombucha making.

All Olivia’s fermentation recipes and processes have been passed down from her German mother or are traditional recipes perfected through years of experience. You will go home with your own water kefir grains and a jar of traditional German sauerkraut ready to ferment.

This course is adaptable to dietary requirements, including vegan/vegetarian diets.

What previous participants said:

  • "Excellent course - very informative and good fun"
