Martin Jones, Deputy Director, EU Exit and Regulatory Reform will be leading a seminar on the Treaties of the EU.
Leaving the EU is probably the biggest policy and legal challenge that the Government has faced in a lifetime, and it is likely to touch on all our work in one way or another. But do you really understand what the EU is and how it became what it is today?
The story can be traced through the various Treaties agreed among the member states. They are effectively the aims of the club, what the member countries hoped to achieve together and how.
This session will walk you through the Treaties. We’ll turn the pages and pick out the most important bits, highlighting the major new developments. Don’t worry, we won’t read every word. And the Treaties are surprisingly accessible and more readable than UK legislation.
It’s a two hour session but we’ll take a break in the middle. And hopefully, by the end, you’ll have a good idea of how the current Treaties fit together so you can look things up for yourself.
If this session is oversubscribed then don’t worry, we’ll do a repeat soon.
