The purpose of this seminar

Trees enrich our lives. They make positive contributions to many aspects of our urban environment and those that encounter them. Well-managed trees within our green infrastructure are also strategically important for meeting many future challenges. However, if trees are to become appreciating assets, it is vital to make appropriate species selection for any given location.

This seminar introduces new guidance on tree selection for those engaged with green infrastructure projects and explores some key strategic issues for those involved with establishing the urban forest.

Who should attend this seminar?

All those engaged in the built environment and its green infrastructure including: design professionals, developers, planners, natural environment specialists and health professionals who recognize the value of a healthy and resilient urban forest.

The programme

A full seminar programme can be downloaded here. In addition to a series of talks from leading experts, there will also be opportunities to meet a range of trade partners with an interest in establishing trees in urban environments.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We would strongly encourage people to use public transport where possible. The nearest train station is University Birmingham.

In relation to car parking - Guests arriving before 18.00 Monday to Friday will need to park in the University’s North East Car Park on Pritchatts Road, B15 2SA. This is a Pay and Display car park. Travelling by public transport is strongly encouraged as there are limited spaces after 9 am.

The Michael Tippet Room is located on the third floor of Staff House, R23 on the campus map. On arrival at the University of Birmingham campus, make your way towards Staff House on grassy University Square. If you’re approaching from the North East Car Park, Staff House can be found on the right-hand side of the square, clearly signed. If you’re approaching from University train station, Staff House will be on your left before you reach the square, also clearly signed.

A campus map can be dowloaded from the link above.
