Talk begins: 6.45-7.30pm

Audience Q&A: 7.30-8pm

Finish: 8.30pm

So what is our first topic all about?

Romantic love is so important nowadays, people look to their partners for fulfilment in a way that we haven’t seen through most of history. Expectations are higher than ever, and yet love seems out of reach for so many people.

In our first talk Dr Christine Campbell, Senior Lecturer in Psychology will be looking at beliefs we have about relationships and how those beliefs have been changed and shaped by technology and culture. Looking across time, from the history of marriage to right up to internet dating in the Tinder age, to show that while some things change, love is eternal.

Christine will challenge some common misconceptions about relationships and give people hope for how they can take the lessons from research and apply them to their own lives. This will be a fun engaging talk and audience members will find out about cutting edge academic research as well as insights into thing like the most attractive dance to do when they’re on a night out.

Relationships are going through complex cultural shifts and it’s easy to succumb to gloom, but the divorce rate is lower than it’s been for decades and although the road to love can now take different routes, the destination remains the same. This talk will help viewers to understand and navigate those changes a little better and come away with some inspiring messages about the future of love.

#Trending aims to foster an environment in which important, intellectually engaging subjects are brought into the public arena in an accessible and lively manner. Our ambition is to challenge cultural stereotypes by demonstrating the ways in which academic thought, humour and discussion can and should be utilised to help us understand why we think and feel the way we do.

We’re looking to bring something a totally different to the Nottingham events circuit and I hope you will be joining us on the 24th October!
