Event description
Come and join us for breakfast and inspirational talks on parenting.

About this Event

A breakfast event for people with families, and those who want to know what it's like.

Presented by Triangirls.

Meet other working parents to discuss how to manage work/life balance with the addition of little ones.

Topics we'll cover: a new dad's perspective - Ryan will share how he overcame his fears of being a new dad and how he manages being a co-founder of an agency with being a parent to Lyra. Emily will talk to us about how she's made a successful career as an engineer working part time, which has allowed her to excel in both her career and as a parent of two.

Talk #1 - Ryan Hyslop - Co-founder We Make Waves

You'll be fine

When I learned I was going to be a dad and shared with other people my fears, the common response was “You’ll be fine”. When trying to understand what fine would look like to me, I took a lot of reassurance from reading about other dad’s experiences . I hope this talk, aside from being a free therapy session for me, will be of some support to others.

Talk #2 - Emily Sas - Software Engineer at Compare the Market

Parent in Tech: part-time, full-value

PT Engineers are few and far between, as are the companies that offer/advertise part-time roles. However engineering is a field that’s ideal for PT workers, and in my experience the company benefits just as much. I’ll talk a little about my experiences, both good and bad; why I think companies should embrace the opportunity to hire part time developers; and why as parents, we shouldn’t shy away from conversations around flexible working arrangements.

Running order:

08:00 - Arrival and breakfast

08:30 - Intro - Triangirls

08:40 - Ryan Hyslop - You'll be fine

08:55 - Emily Sas - Part-time, full-value

09:15 - Mingling

10:00 – End
