Event description

Description

The second annual TRICS Training & Development Forum is to be held on Tuesday 28th November in Birmingham. Following a successful first event in Newcastle last year, we are very pleased to announce that this year’s event will be taking place at The Repertory Theatre in central Birmingham, and that once again this event is free to member organisations (one attendee per member office) on a first come first served basis (places are limited). Non-members of TRICS who are considering joining are also welcome to attend.

Following last year’s event being held in association with the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), we are again pleased to be working with the CIHT for this year’s forum. As per 2016, attendance at this event will qualify for CPD, and certificates will be available upon request.

This is a different event to our annual TRICS User Meeting. Unlike the User Meeting, which covers aspects of TRICS in a broad perspective, the Training & Development Forum (TDF) is more of a user training event, where attendees can pick up hints and tips on the use of TRICS and contribute ideas towards further developing the system. This is very much an event for the actual day to day users of the system, and we are pleased to continue touring around various parts of the UK with the TDF whilst keeping the annual User Meeting based in London.

The TRICS TDF is also another excellent opportunity to network with members of the TRICS community, attendees being day to day users from both private and public sector organisations. We have found that our events have always been productive whilst at the same time informal, and have in the past led to significant changes to the system via our interactive open forum approach, where everyone gets to have their own say in the future of TRICS.

The Programme

The event will start off with a brief system demonstration of TRICS, covering the main functions of the system, and handy for both users and non-users of the system. This will be followed by some hints and tips on the use of TRICS in the context of our Good Practice Guide, an essential document covering the correct methods of using the system and presenting its data. Then, there will be an open forum where everyone can have their say on the future development of TRICS from a user’s perspective.

After a buffet lunch, we will look at a couple of theoretical case studies (trip generation for residential and employment land use types), detailing the processes used in TRICS and providing further good practice guidance. This will be followed by a brief presentation on the ongoing development of a TRICS system for users in New Zealand and Australia, and then there will be an update on commissioned TRICS surveys and use of the Bureau Service by non-member organisations. Finally, there will be a further open forum covering all elements of TRICS, where questions on the day’s presentations can also be put forward.

The Venue

The Birmingham REP is located in the heart of the city, within walking distance of Birmingham New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill train stations, and is easily accessible from the M5 and M6 with nearby parking. The REP is renowned for its year-round programme of theatrical events. However, in its recent refurbishment the architects created versatile spaces for conferences, exhibitions, client entertainment, meetings and banqueting. We consider this an ideal venue for this year’s TRICS TDF. The conference spaces all have natural daylight, the latest audio and visual equipment, and stunning views over Centenary Square and the City of Birmingham.
