About this event
TRIGGERS: What are they? How do they happen? And what can we do about them? How do we stop being triggered or manage them more effectively?
Triggers can be anything from something physical you encounter that creates a reaction in your body to memories or situations you encounter that trigger a strong emotional response. You might find that certain places or environments trigger you to relive experiences you dealt with in the past. Likewise, you might find that certain events, situations, or people trigger certain behaviours in you or cravings for things.
At any point in life, we can find ourselves subconsciously reacting to them without even realising why we are finding ourselves anxious, panicked, sad and reliving past memories we'd sooner not. You might not even realise you are being triggered, yet find yourself going through challenging times or seeing the same patterns of things happen to you time and time over again.
After attending this class, however, you will be able to tell when you've been triggered. What's more, from learning about Gleni's personal, work and teaching experience, you will learn some great tips on when to expect them, detect them, and handle them to prevent them from hijacking your mood and positive well-being.
More about your tutors
Meet lovely Gleni, a former counsellor and adult education teacher who used to teach counselling skills and self-awareness courses. Hear about Gleni's journey towards becoming a counsellor and the time she spent reliving memories of her childhood and feelings previously buried deep within the subconscious mind. Then, through this painful process, she went on to experience a moment of spiritual enlightenment, which helped her accept herself as herself, leading her on her life's ultimate journey. To train to become a counsellor.
Throughout her working career, Gleni has been driven to help people gain a deeper understanding of themselves, having benefited from her experience of working through past memories. This experience enables Gleni to advise and empathise with firsthand experience about the impact triggers have upon people, and it is this life experience and understanding that you will be greeted with within this relaxed, safe, and informative workshop.
This time, Gleni is joined by Nicola, who has a work history and experience of domestic abuse. Over twenty years ago, she co-facilitated perpetrator programmes, supported women and delivered training in the community. Nicola is enthusiastic about group facilitation and learning, believing we all are our own experts and that sharing experience can provide immeasurable benefit to others.
Accessibility
Please note that there are some stairs to access this room, which are situated near the front entrance of the building. Although we will leave chairs at the bottom and the top of the stairs, this session may not be suitable for adults with mobility challenges due to building constraints.
This session may well trigger you to encounter intense emotions. Please be assured that although we cannot provide volunteers to sit in this session, you may exit the session to seek listening support from a volunteer in our wellbeing cafe downstairs if need be.
This session is running to support community wellbeing and to also raise funds for the Sherwood Exchange—a local food hub that shares surplus groceries and reduces waste. After attending, you're welcome to collect a bag of food that might otherwise go to landfill.
