Event description

Description

Throughout 2016- 2017 academic year, Leeds Trinity University will celebrate its 50th Anniversary. As part of our yearlong celebrations, we’re hosting a number of talks at the University throughout the year to showcase successful Alumni of the university, along with other high profile associates..

Trinity Talks are open to Alumni, students, staff, members of the local community and partners  of the University.

Dr Gervase Phinn, Life fellow  at Leeds Trinity University, Author and Lecturer, is the third speaker in the Trinity Talks series.

Dr Gervase Phinn – comedian, author, poet, broadcaster, lecturer, educational guru, after-dinner speaker and ‘born raconteur’ (the Guardian) is perhaps best known for his best-selling series of Dales books for Penguin and his novels with Hodder. Affectionately dubbed ‘the James Herriot of Schools’, his warm-hearted hearted reminiscences about his life as a school inspector in the Yorkshire Dales, have featured heavily on Radio 4 Book of the Week and Book at Bedtime slots. He has written a wide range of academic books, children’s poetry and fiction and in 2004 was voted ‘Speaker of the Year’. In a light-hearted and entertaining way, Gervase will talk about his life and his work.

Titled “The School Inspector Calls!” Gervase will deliver an entertaining and anecdotal talk about teachers, children and schools based on his experience as a teacher and OFSTED school inspector.
